Episode 55. On the Day that I Died.

Standard
Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the studio and go record off-site! This week we joined producer, Hraefn Wulfson. Director Chuck Waagen, and actor Dutch Van Der Laan at McGrew Studios to talk about their upcoming film, On the Day that I Died.

On the Day that I Died is a passion project for Director Chuck Waagen. They have been working on filming for the past year and a half. Their budget is minimal (on purpose) and they are utilizing the mad skills of set designer, Hraefn Wulfson and Jen Mcgrew, and of course, the beauty of Utah. Without giving too much away, On the Day that I Died “follows a desperate man who, as a result his own selfish impulsive action (suicide) finds himself in a foreign and surreal world which he doesn’t understand; challenging him to make sense of this strange realm, inhabited by even stranger people, and come to terms with the reason he decided to end his life in the first place.

And who doesn’t love a life size armadillo? We are excited to see this movie come to fruition and if you would like to donate, or be part of the film, please reach out to us and we can get you in contact with the crew!

McGrew Studios is know for its paranormal activity and Hraefn took us on a tour of the studios after the show and we may have a lot to talk about next week!!

Utah’s One Thing: Derek Rhodes/Vision of Tragic Black

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Derek “Vision” Rhodes of Tragic Black  of episode 32 told us that someone visiting Utah MUST see local bands. Visit places like Area 51, Club X, etc. Derek also suggested beautiful places like Memory Grove and on the west side of Salt Lake, the Summum Pyramid.

Episode 33: Awakening of the Utah Nerds

Standard

Episode 33 is coming at you with tons and tons of nerd magic and a little bit of Friday the 13th superstition!

Valerie Cameron-Walker was our guest this week on The New Utah Podcast. We couldn’t even begin to cover all the amazing projects she has and is working on! You may know her best from the morning show Val and Mike on B98.7, but we know her as Co-Creator of the upcoming Wizarding Dayz!! Val is heavily involved in the Utah community. Every thing from Utah Pride, Salt Lake Comic Con, Sundance, and she is also currently working on producing a movie! We will get her back to talk about that and because we have to talk about her life with her Marvel fan-site too!

Wizarding Dayz is not a con… not an expo… not a show.. but an EXPERIENCE! Workshops, and classes, and magic- Oh my!!! Val gives us a run down of what is going to be offered and pricing for the February 24th and 25th event at the Southtowne Expo Center. We can’t wait to see how this event goes, because for Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings fans it sounds pretty magical.

AND…AND it supports three local charities!!

WE HAVE 10 TICKETS TO GIVE AWAY TO THIS EVENT!!! LIKE OUR FACEBOOK PAGE, SHARE THIS POST, AND TAG SOMEONE TO BE ENTERED!!!

Our friend Vision and his band Tragic Black will be performing at Metro Music Hall on Saturday! If you want something a little more low-keyed that Utah LARP will be having a combat practice at Crestwood Park and if you want it MORE low-key… sign up for the Big Block of Cheese event and go have a conversation with your legislator.

Our first guest of 2017 is front man, Vision (aka Derek Rhodes), of Utah’s Own Goth/Metal band, Tragic Black! Which we might add, has been around for 16+ years. We chat with Derek about the evolving club and music scene in Salt Lake City. Remember Confetti’s? Derek and Chris sure do! Have you been to Area 51 lately? Perhaps you should, just for Nostalgia. We get a feel for Tragic Blacks trips around the world and fans in Europe Vs. fans in the U.S.

Vision and Tragic Black have a gig coming up at Metro Music Hall on January 14th! Visit Visions YOU TUBE channel for a taste Tragic Black. You can find them on ITUNES and Spotify too! The New Utah was super stoked he even got in stage makeup for us!!! Also, don’t forget to check out the rest of Derek’s bands that he is singing for that he told us about!(Spectre Theatre, Precariat, and Corvid)
