Episode 55. On the Day that I Died.

Standard
Sometimes it’s nice to get out of the studio and go record off-site! This week we joined producer, Hraefn Wulfson. Director Chuck Waagen, and actor Dutch Van Der Laan at McGrew Studios to talk about their upcoming film, On the Day that I Died.

On the Day that I Died is a passion project for Director Chuck Waagen. They have been working on filming for the past year and a half. Their budget is minimal (on purpose) and they are utilizing the mad skills of set designer, Hraefn Wulfson and Jen Mcgrew, and of course, the beauty of Utah. Without giving too much away, On the Day that I Died “follows a desperate man who, as a result his own selfish impulsive action (suicide) finds himself in a foreign and surreal world which he doesn’t understand; challenging him to make sense of this strange realm, inhabited by even stranger people, and come to terms with the reason he decided to end his life in the first place.

And who doesn’t love a life size armadillo? We are excited to see this movie come to fruition and if you would like to donate, or be part of the film, please reach out to us and we can get you in contact with the crew!

McGrew Studios is know for its paranormal activity and Hraefn took us on a tour of the studios after the show and we may have a lot to talk about next week!!

Utah’s One Thing: Tami Steggell of RubySnap

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?”

Episode 50 we had the extraordinary Tami Steggell, the owner and cookie architect, at RubySnap. Of course the one thing you should do when visiting Utah is to visit her shop and have some cookies! However, Tami said her one thing is to head to Emigration Canyon.  We guess that can be second best to her cookies!

Utah’s One Thing: Victor of Bumblebee’s KBBQ

Standard

At the end of every New Utah interview we like to ask our guests, “What is the one thing that you would tell someone visiting Utah they had to do before leaving?

When we had Victor of BumbleBee’s KBBQ for epsiode 49, he made us all laugh by starting his one thing in Utah off by saying how little of a night life there is in Utah. Victor did say the given, Temple Square. But then there was a little light that went off. Victor said the one thing you must do before leaving a visit to Utah is to head to Strawberry Reservoir or Mirror Lake and fish!

Episode 53 Do You Yelp?

Standard

Welcome, welcome!

First we want to thank Nick Passey and the dudes of Folk Hogan for allowing us to use their music for our new intro! We are proud to use local music.

What better way to start with our new year of The New Utah Podcast than with a company and person who is passionate about Utah?

We got to start our new year by having Jeffrey Steadman in studio. Jeffrey is the Senior Community Director for Yelp in Utah! Not only is he holding a coveted position in Yelp, he is also the author of “The Best In Tent Camping.”  Listen to Jeffrey talk about the impact of Yelp in the Utah scene. Yelp isn’t just a directory site, they are making sure that the people using it are included in activities and VIP parties all around the state! Of course we had to ask him what his favorite restaurants are, we believe his title should be, “Pokemon of Restaurants.” Don’t you think? You can find YelpSLC on Instagram (the best), Twitter, and Facebook! And of course download the app to take advantage of the new reservation feature.

What is your favorite place you have found using Yelp?

It is Pride weekend in Salt Lake! There is plenty to do including Utah’s premier drag impersonation show Viva La Diva’s Show at ClubX and the massive parade on Sunday. We also want to congratulate The New Utah Podcast alum, Misty K Snow, for winning the breaking barriers award from the Pride Festival this year!

Episode 52: ALL Roads Indeed Lead to Peter!

Standard

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Episode 52 is the end of our first year. We can’t say thank you enough to everyone that has participated and been excited to be part of The New Utah Podcast. We have so many amazing people in Utah and we look forward to a new year of meeting more!

For our end of year show we were joined by the lovely Melinda, who is the owner and brain behind Thyme and Place. Melinda chatted with us about her journey from the corporate world (literally) to a passion for plants. If you need to incorporate plants into your home and are afraid of killing them, don’t worry, she offers air plants and succulents that need little attention. Maybe you need a place to just meditate and  get your hands dirty, Thyme and Place should be it! Melinda was even so kind to bring us a beautiful Rubber Tree as an anniversary gift! And Melinda gets full credit for our show title this week, it’s true… the roads do all lead to Peter.

You can find her at 362 E 900 S in Salt Lake City. Keep up with her events and workshops on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

Every episode we ask our guests, “what is the ONE thing you would tell someone visiting Utah that they must do before leaving.” This week we each went through what our “one things” are.

Chris said The Chocolate.

Bre said go to a Real Salt Lake game.

Jeremy said hit up some local ghost towns.

Jessica said eat local (Hub & Spoke Diner, Grove Market and Deli, India Palace Provo Utah) and finish up with a drive up the Alpine loop and stop at Treasures Antique Mall in Springville!

We recapped of some of our favorite episodes and events we took part in. It was pretty much unanimous that Utah Halloween Expo was our favorite event (episodes 21 and 22)!

We’d love to hear what were some of your favorite episodes? Do you have a favorite show title or guest?

What would you like to see us talk about and do this new year?

Again, we look forward to a stellar new year with more amazing people that represent the heart and soul of Utah! Thank you again to everyone who has made this happen for us.
